Why some "free" QR codes stop working
Many QR code websites don't put your link in the code. They put their own short link in it, which sends people on to yours. That lets them switch your code off when the "free trial" ends, unless you start paying a monthly fee. By then the code is already printed on your menus, flyers or signs.
Static codes don't expire
A static QR code holds your link (or Wi-Fi details, or contact card) inside the pattern itself. Nothing in between, nobody can switch it off. It works as long as your link works, even if the website that made it disappears.
Every free code made on ScanSpot is static. No account, no trial, no catch. You can add colors and a logo, and download it as PNG or SVG.
What if I need to change the link later?
That's what editable codes are for. They do go through our website, so you can change where they point after printing. The difference: if you stop paying, ScanSpot codes keep working. They keep opening the last link you set. You just can't edit them anymore.
How to tell if a code will expire
Scan it and look at the link your phone shows before opening it. If it's your own website, it's static. If it's a short link from the QR company's website, it can be switched off.
