Wi-Fi QR code: let guests join with one scan

Stop spelling out your Wi-Fi password. Put it in a QR code, and guests just point their camera at it to connect.

How to make one

  1. Open the Wi-Fi maker.
  2. Type your Wi-Fi name exactly as it appears on your phone (capital letters matter), and the password.
  3. Pick the security type. Almost every home and business router uses WPA/WPA2/WPA3.
  4. Download it, print it, and test it with your own phone before you put it up.

Which phones can scan it?

iPhones (iOS 11 and newer) and most Android phones (Android 10 and newer) can join Wi-Fi straight from the camera app. Older Android phones can use Google Lens. The phone shows a "Join network" button. Tapping it connects.

Where to put it

Good to know

The password is stored inside the code itself, not on our website, so the code never expires. But that also means if you change your Wi-Fi password, you need a new code. If you run a guest network, put the guest network in the code, not your main one.

Questions

Is a Wi-Fi QR code safe?

Anyone who scans it gets the password, the same as if you told them. Only put it where you would share the password anyway, or use a separate guest network.

Does a Wi-Fi QR code expire?

No. The Wi-Fi name and password are inside the code itself. It works until you change the password or the network name.

Why won't it connect?

Usually the Wi-Fi name or password has a typo, or a capital letter is different. Check both, and make sure the security type matches your router. If your network is hidden, tick "Hidden network".
